Martin Scarborough, Senior Partner at Smith and Graham, and member at Seaton Carew Golf Club has recently found his mojo when it comes to the greatest game on turf, GOLF! Martin regularly participates in open events and travels far and wide to play on some of the best courses that England, Wales, and Scotland have to offer. He has recently returned from Carnoustie, one of the worlds most prestigious clubs after participating in The Craw Nest Tassie, a week long event.
After two strokeplay qualifying rounds on the Championship and Burnside courses, the top 64 scratch players head into the knockout stages to compete for the Tassie while the top 64 handicap scores battle it out for the Maulesbank Trophy. Martin said: “My aim at the start of the week was to qualify for the Maulesbank. I never expected to get as far as I did, let alone to win. I was absolutely thrilled to do so, on such an iconic course.”
Martin qualified round the Championship and Burnside with rounds of 80 and 81 and finished in 17th place for the Maulesbank knockout. In the matchplay rounds, he won his last 64 and last 32 matches 2&1 on the Burnside course before returning to the Championship course to win the last 16 match 3&2 and his quarter-final tie 2up.
In the semi-final he completed a 5&3 victory to earn a place in the final. Giving two shots to his opponent, Robert Vaisey from Marple, Martin was 2 down after seven holes, but managed to get back to all-square at the 10th. He then won the 11th, 13th and 14th holes to go 3up with four to play, going on to close out the match with a five on the 18th to win the trophy.

A Second Title
Just weeks later, Martin has gone onto win another open played at Royal North Devon.
Martin claimed the Club Tankard, with a net 67, winning by 1 stroke from Guy Williamson from Hinksey Heights Golf Club. Another fantastic achievement.
